Yule Blessings

Yule Blessings

Blessings to you from the Earth Mother.
She is the Moon.
She watches over all of us by.
The light that she casts over the blessed earth.
Walk her night lit path
And happiness you will find at every turn.
Blessed be!

Blessings to you from the Sky Father.
He is the Sun. He holds us up
And brings us strength. Carry his sword
To cleave the evil from your path
And you will be unmolested.
Blessed Be!

Blessings to you from the Great Spirit.
It binds us all together:
Man to womyn; beast to beast; all.
We are it and it is us.
Blessed Be!

May you have a wonderful Holiday.
The time has come for the sun to be reborn
He lies in his Mother's womb waiting...
Awaiting his reappearance on this plane.
Let us all rejoice in his rebirth and ours.
Blessed Be!

There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind. ~C.S. Lewis

Laugh more

When you are born you are crying and everyone else is laughing. Live your life so that when you die you are laughing and everyone around you is crying. If you can’t laugh about life you cry about it but laughter is the stuff that gets you through the day ~ Author is unknown to me

Since laughter is one of the secrets to a happy life, here is a lighthearted Irish blessing for you.

May your feet never sweat,
your neighbor give you ne're a treat.
When flowers bloom, I hope you'll not sneeze,
and may you always have someone to sqeeze!

As you ramble through life, whatever be your goal; Keep your eye upon the doughnut, and not upon the hole.  ~~ Irish proverb

Gra, Dilseacht, Cairdeas -- Love, Loyalty, Friendship

Red and Green

" Sorrow and scarlet leaf,
Sad thoughts and sunny weather.
Ah me, this glory and this grief
Agree not well together!"

"Autumn is the eternal corrective. It is ripeness and color and a time of maturity; but it is also breadth, and depth, and distance. What man can stand with autumn on a hilltop and fail to see the span of his world and the meaning of the rolling hills that reach to the far horizon?

Publicity release for Vistas-Vision and Verse: an exhibit of ekphrastic poetry and the original art that inspired it

“A common theory about poetry and art (made popular by Plutarch) is that “painting is mute poetry and poetry is a speaking picture”.” John Hollander

Vistas-Visions and Verse: an exhibit of ekphrastic poetry and the original art that inspired it is a compilation of 35 paired art and poetry pieces by 14 York and Lancaster County Poets. Media include photography, painting, textile, collage, acrylic on canvas, mixed media and more. Poetry takes the form of haiku, narrative, free verse and more.

The exhibit will hang in the Spring House Gallery of the Lancaster County Council of the Arts, 201 West Gay St., Lancaster, in November and December. An opening reception for the exhibit will be Sunday, November 4th, 2-4 and will include a brief reading by the poets.

“No one person will see and internalize a work of art in exactly the same way, thus outer experience is a reflection of the inner personal experience.” Kristen S. Kurzawski, Demystifying Poetry Using Women’s Ekphrasis.

We hope this exhibit will continue and contribute to the conversation between literature and the visual arts.

Taake time

Nobody sees a flower -- really
-- it is so small it takes
time -- we haven't time--and
to see takes time, like to have a
friend takes time.
Georgia O'Keeffe (Painter Nov 1897 - Mar 1986)

The brother and sister team known as Merlin and Yue staged a dramatic escape today with the aid of Maggie the dog, and Luna the White Ghost. Maggie and Luna impeded the efforts of Andy Laighleis to stop the Ying/Yang twin siblings from running out the door. Yue was quickly captured, but Merlin the Masterful evaded capture for a few minutes. It took the effort of Tiger the outside cat to corral Merlin until Andy was able to grab the escapee.  All outside animals are on the outside and all the inside animals are inside. Andy went off to purchase kitty treats for all the felines in the caper.
